FAQ about maternity sessions

How long is a pregnancy photoshoot?

Maternity photography sessions at my studio take between 1 to 3 hours - all depends on the style of images you would like me to capture for you.

Do you offer outdoor maternity photography?

I do not offer outdoor photoshoots for many reasons:

London parks are very busy on weekends with lots of people and dogs in the background. Not to mention the weather is often unpredictable.

Many parks require a permit from professional photographers which needs to  be applied and paid for in advance of booking your shoot. I do not encourage irresponsible behaviour by pretending it’s not a professional photo shoot but we are just friends, as suggested by some photographers

Most importantly, I feel a maternity photo shoot is all about capturing the beautiful shape of your body with stunning lighting which I can achieve in my studio every single time. Without waiting for a dog to finish it’s business in the background. Or being in the park at 6am before everyone else.

Can I purchase digital files?

Yes, maternity photoshoot collections start from 3 images and go up to 50 (or more).  Newborn photography packages start at 10 images. Your beautiful photographs will be presented in colour, as well as in black and white, in high resolution (great for printing) and in low resolution (perfect for sending via emails or for social network sites).

Do you shoot on weekends?

I offer photoshoots at my studio on weekdays as well as on weekends.

Hair and make-up for my photoshoot. Is it a must? Or can you recommend someone?

I would suggest getting hair and make-up done if you are 'used' to it. Some people do find it a bit much just because they are not accustomed to wearing as much make-up as the artists tend to apply. Clear direction for the artist ensures you will be delighted with the end result.

I do recommend a few nearby tried and tested salons who are amazing at what they do.

Please allow around an hour and a half for your hair and make-up.

The salons are open on Sundays with lots of mums-to-be preferring to get there early before the traffic builds up and having their shoot finished by lunchtime. This leaves them to enjoy the rest of the day looking fabulous.

How much is a pregnancy photography session?

I wholeheartedly believe that less is more and concentrate on delivering the highest quality portraits to my clients.

I offer digital image collections which start at 3 creative portraits.

Of course everyone’s journey and budgets are different and some mums-to-be love their images so much that they do choose lots more. 50 images plus collections have been selected on many occasions.

Whatever your budget, everyone is treated with the same enthusiasm. I just love to capture beautiful maternity portraits and look forward to meeting you in my studio soon so you can experience some of my creative madness too.

Maternity Masterpieces

1 Maternity Masterpiece is included with any of the sessions. Additional creations cost £200 each.

What is included in airbrushing of my images?

I work with professional retouchers and your images will be airbrushed in as natural a style as possible which will match the images seen on my website.

Skin will be slightly smoothed, any spots removed, teeth whitened and a light 'nip and tuck' of double chins or other parts of the body is offered. Please note that the talent lies in capturing the images rather than the retouching.

Additional airbrushing such as fixing of tan lines, drastic slimming, and removal of tattoos is available at an extra cost.

Please arrive with clothing that has been ironed as any removal of creases is not included in general retouching.

Lastly make sure your hair is as you wish it to be as it’s one of the most difficult things to retouch and often not possible to fix.

Price will be quoted per each job of additional airbrushing requested outside of my normal work.

All about newborn photoshoots

My baby is already here, can I still book a session?

Absolutely - please give me a ring on 07740866964 and we can discuss what style of newborn portraits I can capture for you.

How do I keep my baby calm during a newborn photo shoot?

  • Let’s make sure baby is fed and burped

  • The studio or your home should be nice and warm

  • Using white noise to help settle your baby

  • A dummy/soother/pacifier can help too

  • Best of all: hand your baby over to me - I have been called a baby whisperer many times before!

What do I need to bring with me/us?

As a newborn session can last for up to four hours, I do recommend you bring everything you’re likely to need for your baby such as extra nappies and milk. A change of clothing for yourselves in case of any WET accidents!

Will you be posing baby?

I always pose newborn babies so they look cosy and have their limbs gently placed to look relaxed. On the other hand, natural poses are always wonderful to capture too and so many times I have heard delighted parents exclaim, “…that is how they always sleep!” or “…that’s how they had their hands in the ultrasound photos!” I feel this is a win, win scenario and you receive a great selection of posed, as well as, natural baby portraits.

Should I feed my baby before the session?

If you have a routine in place please feed your baby as normal ahead of the session. Most newborns will require feeding at some point during their photoshoot so do bring their milk or feel free to breastfeed in my studio.

How do I choose my images after my photoshoot?

You select your favourite images from your session via a Zoom meeting where I share my screen with you. I have a great program which makes the selection process a walk in the park. Clients love the ease with which they can choose their portraits and see the images laid out as potential wall groupings. It’s best to allow between thirty minutes to an hour to select your favourite images from your photoshoot.
